Come Darkness, a project curated by Maria Alexandra Vettese, is a yearly homage to winter light and a chance to welcome in the changing season. In 2009 we highlighted the work of 26 artists in a small installation (take a look right here). This winter the installation took up the entire space and blanketed the viewer in bright colorful tones ... it's all the light you'll need to get through the
dark, dark winter.
I am always bewildered by the arrival of early autumn darkness. I travel around in my normal routines confused for weeks. This year I felt I needed to try harder to understand the transition. Was there some way I could prepare? Without even knowing it I found I was using my camera as a tool to dissect the final hours of illumination. I became fixated on capturing a momentary blanket of light, of all tones and colors, which I could hold and pull up around me when all I see is black. I wanted to feel the light. I needed to see the light. And now I feel ready. Come darkness, here we are again.

Consider this your scrapbook of light. The Come Darkness keepsake book includes 16 original film photographs from the show and some that actually did not make the show; all images were taken in October, 2010 in Cushing, Maine. Each book is made one-of-a-kind by the scrap of silk attached to the cover with florescent pink fabric tape; all are numbered and signed and no two are alike. There are only 75 copies of this special book.
